Festive Holiday Tables

Festive Holiday Tables

Isn’t gathering with friends and family over special meals one of the highlights of the holidays? Let’s get inspired to bring out those pretty decorations and dishes to create a truly festive table!

A beautiful table begins with a beautiful centerpiece, of course. One good way to begin is to choose a seasonal  runner as a base. Even if you’re using a tablecloth, a lovely runner on top of it draws attention to the elements of your centerpiece.

Now, about those elements. You might use a floral arrangement, but you don’t have to limit yourself to flowers alone as the focal point of your table. You could display a holiday bouquet, of course, as your focal point and then extend it as we did to include, for example

And for the place settings, how fun to use frosty pine candle rings to highlight the holiday mugs on the layered dinnerware!

Designer tip: even if you’re using plain white plates, the simple addition of a merry mug  (or any holiday item–mini wreath, snowman, elf, santa, holly sprig) on the plate instantly makes your setting Christmas ready!

Do you like a more nature-inspired approach to holiday decorating? You might like a sweet centerpiece using natural elements: open whitewashed wood lanterns, cross, cutout trees, snowflake–and a woodland santa

White dishes are ultra-versatile, so don’t shy away from them. They’re so easy to customize for any holiday.

As on this festive table, white dinnerware makes a neutral base for some colorful and whimsical pieces in the centerpiece. Do you have fun pieces like

that would make a cheerful centerpiece?

Create a simple and fabulous centerpiece by arranging a grouping of pine and cone trees down the center of your runner.

Designer tip: the best arrangements have both unity and diversity, so vary the heights and materials/textures of your trees.

What are the holidays without sparkle? Another version using tabletop decorative trees incorporates some glittering cone trees along with deep green pines, and all accented with gleaming elements such as the snow village ornaments (and the gold and gold-trimmed plates!). Save the paper plates for your picnic–who wouldn’t want to join you around this lovely, thoughtfully designed table?

You really can’t go wrong with green and gold for a stunning holiday table! Bring in gold with gleaming  vases, candlesticks, chargers, glassware, and gold-accented stems and sprays  in your florals. Add in green with green vases and evergreen branches.

For your festive table you might artfully arrange other icons of the winter holidays, such as nutcracker soldiers and reindeer. Accented with gold lanterns and evergreens, it makes a stunning table.
